Sunset Cove ; My new favorite restaurant

Sunset Cove in Tarrytown, NY is my new favorite restaurant.
Service is great. The food is Great. I absolutely love the calamari, one of the better marinara sauces.

My entree was of the daily special which upon leaving I spoke to the manager to ensure it would be in the regular menu because it was they good. It was penne in a pesto sauce with peas, carrots and peas.

My hubby ordered the lasagna which was equally delish. It's made with crore like pasta, which makes it very light. It was a mixture of meats. I can't remember all, but it def had ground beef and lamb.

My margarita was awesomeness!!! I resisted getting a second because u wanted a cappuccino.

My baby boy had fries and chicken tender. Pretty generous portion. Looked good and he said it was.

Desert. I don't love deserts. I asked for the desert menu to order a coffee. Surprisingly my husband decided he was going to order the tiramisu.  Omg. To die for. My cappuccino fantabulous.  My son loved his chocolate ice cream.

This place is a must.

Seared Scallops with Bacon-Braised Chard

Contributed by Stephanie Izard

Seared Scallops with Bacon-Braised Chard

Serves: 4
Total Time: 1 Hour

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 thick slices of bacon, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch strips
  • 1 small onion, cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium tomato, seeded and diced
  • 1 3/4 pounds rainbow chard—stems sliced crosswise 1/2 inch thick, leaves cut into 1-inch strips
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 12 large sea scallops (1 1/2 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

DIRECTIONS
  • 1. In a large, deep skillet, cook the bacon over moderate heat until crisp, 4 minutes. Spoon off all but 2 tablespoons of the fat. Add the onion to the skillet and cook, stirring, until slightly softened, 3 minutes. Add the garlic and stir until tender but not browned, 2 minutes. Add the tomato and cook until it begins to break down, 2 minutes. Add the chard stems and cook until crisp-tender, 4 minutes. Add the chard leaves and cook over moderately high heat, tossing, until wilted, 5 minutes; drain off any liquid. Add the soy sauce and cook until the leaves are tender, 2 minutes longer. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
  • 2. Season the scallops with salt and pepper. In another large skillet, heat the oil until just smoking. Add the scallops and cook over high heat for 30 seconds. Reduce the heat to moderate and cook until golden on the bottom, about 3 minutes. Turn the scallops and add the butter. Cook, spooning the butter on the scallops, until just white throughout, about 3 minutes. Spoon the chard onto plates, top with the scallops and serve.

Banana Pudding with Vanilla Wafer Crumble | Food & Wine

Contributed by David Guas
Serves: 6; Total Time: 45 Minutes;

David Guas, a New Orleans native, remembers this comforting dessert from his childhood. It's a spectacularly creamy banana pudding topped with a crumble made from vanilla wafer cookies.(Recipe adapted from DamGoodSweet.)

INGREDIENTS
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons banana liqueur (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter plus 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup vanilla wafer cookies (about 15), coarsely ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 bananas, coarsely chopped

DIRECTIONS
  • 1. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the cornstarch, the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. In a medium saucepan, bring the milk to a boil. Gradually whisk the milk into the egg yolks until smooth. Transfer the pudding mixture to the saucepan and add the banana liqueur. Cook over moderate heat, whisking, until the pudding is thick, about 3 minutes. Scrape the pudding into a bowl and whisk in the cold butter and vanilla. Cover with plastic and refrigerate until chilled, about 4 hours.
  • 2. Preheat the oven to 325°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a bowl, combine the wafers, cinnamon, the remaining 2 teaspoons of sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir in the melted butter. Spread the crumble on the prepared baking sheet; bake for 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Let cool.
  • 3. Spoon the chopped bananas into bowls. Top with the pudding, sprinkle with the crumble and serve right away.

Homemade Ketchup

Homemade Ketchup

Credit: Beatriz Da Costa

MAKES 3 CUPS
homemade ketchup

It began life as ke-tsiap, a 17th-century Chinese brine of pickled fish and spices, and now shows up, in its modern-day tomato-based version, in restaurants and on home tables across the nation—and across the world. Heinz, the company that invented ketchup as we know it, says that it squeezes 24 of its own specially bred tomatoes into each bottle, along with white vinegar, corn syrup, salt, and flavorings (plus a secret ingredient, which SAVEUR contributor Stephanie Pierson is pretty sure she identified, while touring the Heinz factory in Fremont, Ohio, as clove oil). We like Heinz ketchup, incidentally—but we also like to make our own, this way.

1 28-oz. can tomato purée
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and quartered
1 clove garlic, crushed and peeled
1⁄2 fresh jalapeño, stemmed and seeded
2 tbsp. dark brown sugar
1⁄2 cup cider vinegar
Pinch cayenne
Pinch celery salt
Pinch dry mustard
Pinch ground allspice
Pinch ground cloves
Pinch ground ginger
Pinch ground cinnamon
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

1. Put tomato purée, onions, garlic, jalapeño, and sugar into a blender or food processor and pulse until blended. Add vinegar and 1 cup water and purée until smooth.
2. Transfer to a medium saucepan; add cayenne, celery salt, mustard, allspice, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Store in refrigerator, covered, for up to 1 month.
